Anything But Love Slam

Join us this Sunday for Valentines Day!

We'll be having our Anything but Love Slam at 8:30, February 14 at Revolution Bar and Grill in Downtown Bryan.

What's a poetry slam? Great question!

Everyone is welcome to sign up, first come first serve. Poets are judged by random audience members from a scale of 1 to 10 based on their content and performance. The lowest and the highest scores are dropped. There are three rounds in the slam and the top three poets win prizes! This Sunday there's an opportunity for EXTRA points!
Poets get 1 extra point for each anti-love poem, or for each poem they replace the word "love" with a word of the audience's choosing.

So come out! New poets and old!

MIC CHECK SLAM FEATURING NEIL HILBORN

Were you stupid excited TGS weekend about competition poetry?? Well here is your chance to come out and compete in it. SUnday October the 18th we will be having another Mic Check SLam night...but that is not it folks......Can you say feaaaturee? (In the cool funny way that only really works in person and is kind of impossible to imitiate through text)
Well we have a feature and it is none other then Neil Hilborn.
Neil Hilborn is a College National Poetry Slam champion and a 2011 graduate with honors from Macalester College. In 2013, his poem "OCD" went viral, garnering over ten million views, making it the most-viewed slam poem ever. He has performed in 37 states and three countries, and he is the author of Our Numbered Days, published by Button Poetry Press. Originally from Houston, Texas, he now lives in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

"My first feature ever was at Mic Check five years ago, and it gave me such a huge amount of confidence in the beginning of my career. That confidence helped me continue past the innumerable frustrations and setbacks that any artist starting out is bound to encounter, so I owe a great deal of my success to Mic Check. In this feature I'm going to take a look back at the past five years, and I'm going to examine what has changed both in me and in Bryan, Texas."
